Dourankulak Lake
The Dourankulak Lake is an attractive spot for the fans of fishing and the foreign visitors and tourists. The Dourankulak Lake has been declared a reserve but fishing is allowed in some parts.Black Sea coastal lake, formerly salty, now is a freshwater lake (after disruption of the connection with the sea). Over-abstraction and eutrophication problems. Protected site, IBA, Ramsar site. There is a management plan in preparation and due in recent months or years. This is a project site of the Bulgarian Swiss Biodiversity Conservation Programme.
The area around the lake is not only suitable for fishing tourism, but also for camping, hiking, biking, or for long-distance treking. People enjoy their time and relax among the calm and peaceful nature of the Dourankulak Lake. Usually it is allowed to go fishing in the lake, but because of the lake’s status of a reserve it fishing is not recommended to involve exceding amounts of fish.
