Stara Planina Mountain
With its 700 km Stara Planina is like the backbone of Bulgaria. Stara Planina (The Balkan Range) is the largest and biggest mountain chain, crossing the entire country.
It is also called The Balkan. The mountain separates the country into two parts, stretching from its western border to the Black sea. Stara Planina mountain is located in the middle of Bulgaria all along the whole length of the country. The highest peak of the mountain is Botev peak (2376 meters above sea level, a.s.l.) and is in the geographical center of Bulgaria. Almost more than half of territory of the country can be seen from Botev Vrah. Other significant peaks in Stara Planina mountain are Zhultec, Goljam Kupen (2169m a.s.l.) Ambarica, Vezen (2198 m a.s.l). In the very west on the ridge is the Kom Vrah (2016m a.s.l), Midzhur. There are a bunch of waterfalls nearby Botev peak some of which are Rajsko praskalo, Vidimsko pruskalo and Dzhendemsko pruskalo.

Some of the monasteries which can be seen are The Troyan monastery, Arbanassi monastery, Dryanovo monastery, Sveta Bogoroditsa monastery, etc.

Near by Botev Peak there are many wonderful waterfalls, including the highest waterfall in Bulgaria - Raiskoto Praskalo (120 m).
